Amherst Wines & SpiritsSaturday In Store Tastings Schedule-- June 2008 From 2:00 to 5:00 pm We’re shifting gears into what we think of as seasonally appropriate wines – refreshing whites and lighter, vividly flavored reds. Each Saturday from 2:00 – 5:00 we pop corks, slice fresh baguettes, set out tasting sheets for you to keep, and kick back to enjoy some wines and expand our wine horizons. All compliments of the house, so do drop in when you can. July 5: Spain’s Bargain Reds Under $10 Spain is Europe’s last bastion of true bargains. You won’t believe how good these are. July 12: Whites from France’s Loire Valley Some of the world’s tastiest whites can be found growing along the banks of the Loire, with styles ranging from bone dry to medium sweet. July 19: California Chardonnay In general, we think there’s been a noticeable uptick in quality here. We plan to focus on some new things we’ve found recently. Prepare to be surprised. July 26: Beaujolais No summer would be complete without a tasting of our favorite summer red – Beaujolais. Fresh, clean, crisp, aromatic, and oh-so-tasty. Someone bring some chèvre. August 2: Pinot Blanc One of the best grapes almost no one knows. We’ll taste some fine examples from Alsace, California, and Oregon. You’ll wonder how this has remained hidden for so long. August 9: White Bordeaux 75% of Bordeaux wine is red. The other 25% is not as well known, and offers terrific drinking pleasure. These are quite dry and very food friendly. August 16: Tempranillo – Spain’s Best Red Tempranillo is widely planted in Spain, and almost nowhere else. We find unsurpassed value in these reds. August 23: Whites from Southern Italy Italy’s good whites are primarily from the north, but we have found a bunch from the south that we like very much. August 30: Working Class Reds Our annual Labor Day tasting featuring reds from all over to fit the budgets of the proletariat (like us). This is our chance to show off some nooks & crannies. |
